Seeking Toowoomba's Best Managers Of 2011

The Australian Institute of Management (AIM) is urging the Toowoomba business community to nominate inspirational managers for the prestigious Management Excellence Awards by 10 June 2011.

In a year that has been fraught with challenges to Queensland residents and businesses, the Awards represent an opportunity to honour inspirational, passionate and talented managers for their individual contributions and skill.

Exceptional leaders from every industry and sector and at all career stages are eligible to enter the Management Excellence Awards program. Once nominated, many managers participate because the process provides in-depth self-appraisal and affirmation of their successes.

Toowoomba produced Queensland's professional manager of the year for 2010 in Paul Francis, General Manager Retail Services for Heritage Business Society. Mr Francis threw his support behind the Awards and said that his Awards experience was transformational.

"The Management Excellence Awards was one of the few times in my career where I could stop and reflect on the things I have done, which proved to be very enjoyable," he said.

"As I am passionate about my role within the organisation, I found that others who also share a passion for the organisation were proud and pleased with my success, and this was something that really took me by surprise.

"I encourage other Toowoomba managers to nominate and participate in the Management Excellence Awards. There are a number of reasons why it makes sense; it's a rare development opportunity, it creates recognition for individuals within an organisation and it's a chance for managers to articulate their achievements and tell their stories. A number of staff from Heritage have engaged in the MEA process and all have found it to be a positive experience," Mr Francis said.

The MEAs remain one of the few Awards to recognise the individual and his or her influence on the environment in which they work. Categories for entry include the Professional Manager of the Year, Owner Manager of the Year, Young Manager of the Year, Rural/Remote Manager of the Year and the newly introduced Not for Profit Manager of the Year.

Nominations for the 2011 Management Excellence Awards can be lodged online at www.managementawards.com.au and close Friday 10 June 2011. Nominating is free of charge and only takes a few minutes. For more information, call 1300 882 895.
