Seeking Rockhampton's Best Managers Of 2011
The Australian Institute of Management (AIM) is urging the Rockhampton business community to nominate inspirational managers for the prestigious Management Excellence Awards by 10 June 2011.
In a year that has been fraught with challenges to Queensland residents and businesses, the Awards represent an opportunity to honour inspirational, passionate and talented managers for their individual contributions and skill.
Exceptional leaders from every industry and sector and at all career stages are eligible to enter the Management Excellence Awards program. Once nominated, many managers participate because the process provides in-depth self-appraisal and affirmation of their successes.
Alisha Dunnett, Financial Controller for DC Motors, was Rockhampton's Young Manager of the Year for 2010. Reflecting on her experiences, she said that she found the Awards to be transformational.
"The Management Excellence Awards provided the opportunity to step back and reflect on my career and what I have achieved, which is something that a lot of us never take the time to do," she said.
"It gave me an appreciation of those who have helped shape and influence my career. It also allowed me to think of all the people I've helped along the way and what they have gone on to achieve. I took this opportunity to look to the future and see where I want to be and what I want to achieve as a manager. I've done things differently since participating and as a result of these Awards.
"I encourage other Rockhampton managers to nominate and participate in the Management Excellence Awards. We all get busy and don't take the time to reflect on ourselves and our achievements as managers, but this is part of the process of these awards and by participating it allows you to learn and grow from the experience. And you get to meet a lot of inspiring people along the way," Mrs Dunnett said.
The MEAs remain one of the few Awards to recognise the individual and his or her influence on the environment in which they work. Categories for entry include the Professional Manager of the Year, Owner Manager of the Year, Young Manager of the Year, Rural/Remote Manager of the Year and the newly introduced Not for Profit Manager of the Year.
Nominations for the 2011 Management Excellence Awards can be lodged online at www.managementawards.com.au and close Friday 10 June 2011. Nominating is free of charge and only takes a few minutes. For more information, call 1300 882 895.
