Forging a career in consultancy
Australian Institute of Management - Qld & NT's General Manager Dr Malcolm Johnson FAIM is looking forward to a positive uptake of the new consultancy course in 2013 after a successful pilot program last week.
Dr Johnson, General Manager, Professional Development and Research, facilitated the inaugural, three-day intensive Crafting A Consulting Career course which began on 19 November and he is confident it will be well received next year.
"The feedback from participants was very strong in agreement with how the course was pitched," Dr Johnson said. "Their enthusiasm for the material we covered helped participants clarify the niche relating to their individual expertise and how to assist potential clients add value to their businesses.
"There was good momentum and flow and it allowed participants to reflect and build a business plan to lay the foundations for a successful start-up in 2013. These people now have a very positive response when colleagues ask them what they are doing for work - they can now emphatically say 'I will be recruiting within six months'."
AIM Qld & NT Chief Executive Officer Vivienne Anthon FAIM said the course was tailor-made to address the steadily increasing number of senior managers seeking to pursue new career options.
"One of our roles at AIM, and one we take very seriously, is to scan the employment environment to determine and match the skills managers must possess with those that organisations require," Ms Anthon said.
Brisbane health specialist Moira Goodwin said the course was perfectly timed. "It was exactly the right course at the right time for me," she said.
Fellow senior health worker Jennifer Muller concurred. "The content was relevant, timely, thought-provoking and very useful," Mrs Muller said. "Dr Johnson was very professional, had a clear delivery and he had a very credible, commercial background to deliver the course."
Dr Johnson said the next program would commence in February 2013, following a half-day workshop which will explore employment options to complement participants' skill-sets and personal strengths.
